The Stillwater Historical Society / Museum of the Beartooths is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization incorporated in the State of Montana. The mission of the Stillwater Historical Society, through the Museum of the Beartooths, is to collect, preserve and share the rich history of the Stillwater County area. The museum is located in Columbus, Montana, the seat of Stillwater County, on the corner of 5th Ave. and 5th St.

The main museum building is 7,200 square feet and includes an office, gift shop, archive, collection storage and large exhibit area. Also included on the museum grounds is the T. T. Brown Schoolhouse, the Albert Johnson Tack Shop, a blacksmith shop, a 6,000 square feet building that houses special large collections, and a sizeable outdoor area of displayed farming equipment. All outside areas are dedicated to the farming and ranching history of the Stillwater County Area.

The museum paid staff consists of one full-time Executive Director. The collection consists of artifacts, documents, photographs, oral histories, and maps that reflect the broad multi-cultural mix of miners, frontiersmen, cattlemen, homesteaders and Native cultures who called Stillwater County home.

Museum Hours:

April 1 - December 31, Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Memorial Day - Labor Day - Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
